He further encouraged the students to be intentional about networking, building lasting relationships within their workplaces and strengthening the critical link between Chuka University and industry. The Dean urged the students to take personal responsibility by playing their roles diligently, demonstrating discipline, initiative and a commitment to excellence. Prof. Kyalo charged the students to serve as ambassadors of the University and to maintain professional conduct, positive attitudes, and respect for workplace management. He advised them to understand their duties, keep their daily logbooks updated, and safeguard all important documents required for their assessment.
The briefing, which started at exactly 2 p.m., was addressed by among others, the Faculty Senate Representative Dr. Lennity Maugu, Section Heads, Chairs of Departments and the Industrial Attachment Coordinator, Dr. Raphael Gikunda who provided them with comprehensive guidance on the expectations and requirements of the attachment period.
Dr. Gikunda said field attachment is mandatory and carries 12 credit factors, adding that the exercise will run for 12 weeks with a minimum of eight weeks. He reminded students that the university does not source attachment places and urged them to secure placements before May 20. He also asked students to ensure they have all the required documents, including an introduction letter from Chuka University, a logbook, an insurance certificate, and the confidential form for the field supervisor while keeping their phone contacts active for easy communication.
Dr. Maugu advised students to uphold professional ethics while Chair of the Department for Social Sciences, Dr. Monica Oundo encouraged students to respect organizational culture, dress appropriately and quickly adapt to the new working environment so as to protect the good name of the University.
The Chair of the Department for Humanities, Prof. Dickson Nkonge reminded students that attachment is a course and requires discipline and commitment. Students were also advised to notify supervisors before leaving, write appreciation letters to host institutions, and prepare final reports after successfully completing the attachment period.
