Chuka University (FHSS) Hosts First-Ever Flourishing Community Masterclass

Chuka, Kenya – March 11, 2025
The Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Chuka University successfully hosted the Flourishing Community Model Masterclass, a transformative event that explored sustainable community-led development. The historic masterclass, graced by distinguished guests and faculty members, marked a significant step in strengthening the university’s engagement with the community.
The event featured Prof. Michael Goodman, an applied social epidemiologist, community development expert, and digital health innovator, as the keynote speaker. Prof. Goodman, who has over 15 years of experience working in Sub-Saharan Africa, shared insights on community-driven development, public health interventions, and reintegration of street-involved children. He introduced the Flourishing Community Model (FCM)—a framework that fosters sustainable, community-led health solutions. His work through Sodzo International has pioneered holistic approaches that empower vulnerable children and families.
The masterclass was attended by Chuka University’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Henry Mutembei, alongside DVCs Prof. Nduru (ARSA) and Prof. Kindiki (AFPD), Faculty Dean Prof. Christopher Kiboro, registrars, faculty members, staff, and students. In his remarks, the VC applauded the faculty for organizing an impactful event that aligns with the university’s mission to transform lives through education and research.
Participants engaged in discussions on integrated sustainable development, leadership from grassroots to treetops, and synergies for impactful change. The session provided practical strategies on how institutions and individuals can sustain long-term positive change within communities.
With the success of this inaugural event, Chuka University continues to affirm its commitment to empowering communities, transforming lives, and building the future.
